Apartment Renovation | Private Area: 79.80 m²
A single unit within a vintage condominium more than 40 years old.
Its wall-bearing structure, compliant with current seismic standards, provides a reliable structural “core” that is accepted as the premise of the space.
On this assured framework, the joinery functions not as a mere partition but as a filtered layer (Rosō). Frosted glass evenly filters daylight, while the repeated timber framing receives that light at a consistent “grain,” forming overlapping planes that generate depth. Because of this, the overall tone remains stable even when openings are adjusted, enabling a quiet, controlled flexibility.
Rather than increasing the number of rooms, the design introduces gradations of sightline and distance—stratifying a single open volume and allowing it to gain spatial depth. At the intersection of a robust structural core and an apparatus that calibrates the grain of light, a dwelling with measured profundity is established.
