Apartment Renovation | Private Area: 73.29 m²
The existing wall-bearing structure is accepted as the project’s “core strength,” and without altering the lines of beams or walls, only the spatial grain is recalibrated. Taking the mineral ground of white planes and exposed beams as a given, the design avoids adding partitions. Instead, a timber-framed glass layer—Mokutō (timber translucency)—is inserted to quietly edit presence and distance while filtering light. In the remaining margin, a stone island—Sekitaku (stone table)—is placed, establishing the center of everyday life through horizontal mass.
Rather than increasing the number of rooms, layers are superimposed to deepen spatial depth. Daily movement circulates around this composition, and the space begins to breathe. The intersection of hardness and softness, mass and translucency is named Sekitō (Stone Veil).
